Forgot to mention, I did find fast_login (ctrl/modopts.ini) to allow use of !username or !number.
(on wiki)


But not what that really does for you . It seems to still call various login things mentioned in login.js when

You mean logon.js? Fast-logon defeats a bunch of optional stuff (screens and events) in logon.js.
